DO YOU SUFFER FROM HAMSTRING, QUAD & GLUTE PAIN or ILLIOTIBIAL BAND PAIN?
The cause of pain can be due posture, gait or biomechanical imbalances, where strain is put on a particular area of the muscle, or a repetitive action. Overuse during a sporting activity, or a direct force on the muscle can cause pain and discomfort.
- Quadratus femoris
- Bicep femoris
- Gluteus Maximus, Gluteus Medius, Gluteus minimus
- Illiotibial band syndrome
Common Conditions Treated:
The main cause is a forceful contraction of the muscle, or over stretching of the muscle. The symptoms are pain and tenderness over the injured area, swelling and bruising. Pain may also be experienced when weight bearing and stretching the muscle.
The causes are imbalances between the hamstrings and quadriceps muscles, forceful stretching of the muscles especially when it is contracted, or overloading the muscle excessively. The symptom is pain and tenderness in the hamstrings.
Is caused by incorrect gait whilst walking or running, or an imbalance in one of the glute muscles, of which there are three. Pain can be felt in and around the glute muscle, and then can continue down the hamstring. The symptoms can be pain whist walking or running, climbing stairs or steps, and during prolonged sitting.
Illiotibial Band Syndrome
This is caused by compression or a friction to the illiotibial band that is the result of repetitive hip and knee flexion and extension, whilst the tenor fasciae latea (which lies on the front of the upper iliotibial band) is still contracted, such as in running. Also, imbalances in the quad and hamstring can be a cause.
Although one session is highly beneficial, regular massage treatments maximise the numerous benefits.
